The city of Northfield, Minnesota is split between the counties of Dakota and Rice. The city spans over 8 square miles and is home to just over 20,000 residents. We’re proud to serve these residents each day.
In its early formation, the city founder, John North, established Northfield as a wheat frontier. The city was known for its vast land dedicated for the agriculture of corn and wheat. The city adapted to the land by bringing in cattle farms. Since it’s early days, the town has coined the slogan “Cows, Colleges, and Contentment.”
The City of Northfield is home to Carleton College. The college was established in 1866 and is home to over 2,00 undergraduate students that are served by a staff of over 200. The U.S. News & World Report ranked the college in 2014 as the seventh best liberal arts college. The campus spans over 1,040 acres of land that is home to over 10 buildings including Goodsell Observatory (est.1887), Skinner Memorial Chapel (est. 1916), and Cowling Arboretum (880 acres).
The town of Northfield hosts an annual outdoor festival that is called “The Defeat of Jesse James Days”. The festival is a town celebration that started in the late 1800’s when the town had finally stopped the robbing team of Jesse and Frank James. Thousands of residents from the town flood the streets for:

- Car Show
- Parade
