Mauston is a city in the county seat of Juneau County. The Wisconsin city is home to over 4,000 residents over four square miles of water and land. We are proud to serve these residents, property owners, and contractors each day.
The city was previously referred to as Maughs Town after its founder, Milton M. Maughs. Maughs was one of the earliest settlers to the town. He experienced the town’s booming lumber industry.
The small city is home to a National Registered Historic Place. The Boorman House is nestled on Union Street. Mr. Benjamin Boorman built this historic home in 1875. The English immigrant was one of the most prominent residents in early Mauston. He built the city’s first flour mill and grist mill that brought in many residents to the town. His home is preserved exactly the way it was left when he died in 1859. The beautiful large home is still home to his extensive book collection and many personal items such as furniture and letters.
The city is also home to many schools. The Mauston Area School District provide preschool to high school education levels. The district has four elementary schools and one high school. The city also hosts a Western Technical College campus where students can choose from 43 study programs.
