The large suburb of Lakeville, Minnesota is located just over 20 miles from the Minneapolis downtown area. The Dakota County city is the Twin Cities’ southern fringe and is one of the fastest growing cities outside of their metropolitan area.
The city first became known in 1910. Marion Savage was a wealthy man that resided in the area. He built an amusement park called Antlers Amusement Park. The park was one of the main attractions of the time, but it only served the area’s residents, as there was few ways to get into the town. Savage built the Dan Patch Railroad Line that passed through local towns and landed at the park.
Lakeville is home to a five member City Council where a City Administrator runs the daily operations. The city is home to the stated 2nd Congressional District that is represented by John Kline.

Three school districts serve the entire city, but the community determines the boundaries. There are three middle schools, eight elementary and two high schools. The state of Minnesota has an open enrollment statute that allows parents to enroll their child in any school in the county.
