The Dakota County city, Farmington is located in the twin city metropolitan area. The 14 square mile city is home to over 20,000 residents. We’re proud to serve Farmington’s residents and contractors every day.
Farmington formed from the Empire Township in the early 1850’s. The city functioned as a train station into the Dakota City and Farmington Stations so they changed the name to Farmington.
The Vermillion River runs through a portion of the city. The 59-mile waterway runs through two counties in the state and ends in the Mississippi River. The portion of the river that flows through Farmington is abundant in trout. The city has provided its residents with maps to the best parts of the lake to fish.
Farmington is home to over 20 parks that serve as both public recreational areas and wildlife preserves. The town has a program called Adopt-A-Park, where the city asks residents of Farmington to adopt the park for a two-year period. The residents who adopt parks work with the city to help maintain and preserve the park. After the two years, the city erects a sign in the park with the names of the adopters to show their appreciation.
The city takes pride in their beautiful landscape. Farmington’s city council hosts an annual photo contest where residents send in their best photos of the city’s features. Many people submit scenic pictures of everyday life in the town and some submit pictures from some of the events in the town. The winning photo is featured on street banners and hung for appreciation in the downtown area.
