Cumberland is located in Barron County, Wisconsin. It is known by locals as the “Island City.” A majority of the city is located in the center of Beaver Dam Lake. In 1874, A. Ritan and R. H. Clothier explored the area and decided to settle there after they met a couple of surveyors that discussed the railroad’s intention of building a railway through the land. R. H. Clothier built a farm on the land in 1875. The town continued to grow until it became the thriving community it is today.
The city enjoys its proximity to Beaver Dam Lake. Fishermen enjoy fishing for Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Trout, and Walleye. Many residents enjoy going canoeing, kayaking, or boating on the lake.
Cumberland has many community events that residents enjoy. Their most popular event is the “Rutabaga Festival”. The event happens annually, the weekend before Labor Day. During this event, there is live music, carnival rides, fair foods, and a parade.
The city wishes to promote a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for residents and visitors to the city. Cumberland has a bustling downtown that has a variety of restaurants and shops. Cumberland also welcomes visitors and campers with a number of campgrounds, inns, and motels.
