Lampert Lumber is the premier provider of lumber and building materials in the city of Le Mars. We have proudly served contractors and residents for over a century.

We love serving the city of Le Mars. The city is the county seat of Plymouth County, Iowa. It has proclaimed itself to be the “Ice Cream Capital of the World”, because it is the home to Wells’ Dairy, the producer of Blue Bunny ice cream products. The Wells’ plant also creates ice cream for many other producers including, Häagen-Dazs, Baskin-Robbins, General Mills, and General Foods.

Well’s Dairy is the largest industry in the city. In 1913 Fred H. Wells began a dairy route in Le Mars. In 1925, Wells and his sons began to produce ice cream. Their business was then bought by Fairmount Ice Cream three years later. The sons wished to produce ice cream again, but they could not use their name. They had a “Name that Ice Cream” contest in the Sioux City Journal. The winner suggested “Blue Bunny”, because his son liked seeing the blue bunnies in department store window displays during Easter.

While Le Mars was platted in 1869, no one bought any of the lots until 1879 when the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company arrived. According to legend, the name came from a CNW investor, John I. Blair and a group of women that arrived in the station, then called St. Paul Junction. He asked the women to name the town. They created an acronym from their first names: Lucy Underhill, Elizabeth Parson, Mary Weare, Anna Blair, Rebecca Smith and Sarah Reynolds, thus creating Le Mars.
